Life Story for Richard "Dick" Macnab

Dick Macnab passed away on January 6, 2019 in Hood River while playing basketball.

He was born December 19, 1949 in The Dalles, OR to Peter Macnab and Janet (Kaseberg) Macnab. He grew up on the family farm outside of Wasco, OR with his three brothers and one sister. He attended Wasco Grade School and graduated from Sherman High School in 1967. He was a member of FFA, played tennis, and wrestled. After graduation, he attended Oregon State University where he met his wife, Pam. They married on September 18, 1971 in Albany, OR. Dick graduated from OSU in 1972. Dick and Pam moved back to Wasco in 1972.

Upon moving home, Dick worked for his dad on the family farm and eventually took over the ranch with his younger brother, Jim. After having a stroke in July of 2006, he retired from farming and started work as a crop insurance adjuster. He also spent several years coaching basketball at both Sherman High School and Dufur High School.

Dick’s biggest passion was always basketball. He was an avid sports enthusiast, but basketball was always #1. He spent the school year watching any and every sporting event he could. He supported Sherman, The Dalles, Dufur, and any other team that he felt was exciting to watch. He was also a lifetime runner, participating in Hood to Coast for several years. He played for the local softball team, Frosty’s, until they disbanded. He joined the Barnstormers theater group in 1980 and was involved in every play either acting or directing until they disbanded in 2004.

Dick’s life was changed for the better first when his daughter, Tori, was born and again when his grandchildren, Gemma and Enzo, were born. Anyone who got to know him in the last five years most likely either saw him with a grandkid in his arms or heard all about them. He was so proud of all three of them.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Janet; his brother, Peter; and his parents-in-law, Dwight and Lorna Fisher.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Pam (Fisher) Macnab of Wasco, OR; daughter Tori Macnab Medina and son-in-law Tony of The Dalles, OR; his much beloved grandchildren, Gemma and Enzo; and his faithful companion, Casey. He is also survived by his father, Pete Macnab of Wasco, OR; brothers Loren, Craig, and Jim (Dorene) of Wasco, OR; sister Joy of The Dalles, OR; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A celebration of life will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 26th, 2019 at The Wasco School Event Center (903 Barnett St, Wasco, Oregon 97065). Potluck reception will follow.
