Obituary for Nettie Lafawn Elston

Nettie Elston passed away on Tuesday, June 30th, 2020 at OHSU in Portland, Oregon due to complications from stage 4 lung cancer. She lived a very full 71 years with her family and friends by her side. She is now off to explore heaven with her loving husband Myril, her sisters Sherriett and Donna, her niece and nephew Sabrina and Billy Wayne, and great nephew Andre.

Nettie is survived by her mother Velma Gordon, sister Billie Dugan, and her unconditionally loving son and daughter Thomas Wickerham and Cindy Watson-Wickerham. Along with her grandchildren Micheal Janson, Tasha Jansen, Breena Wickerham, Allyson Wickerham, and Thomas wickerham. Plus her most precious great grandchildren Tyler Vonsmlomski, Jerakai Janson, Keeli Vonslomski, Hunter Lacock, Brodey Foster, Tyson Foster, Jace Janson, Ryan Foster, Addison Granville, Harper Janson, Amelia Granville, and soon to be Bentley Straub. And of course, the many kids that Nettie took in and was a mom and or grandma to including Kayla Grier, her children, Hannah Miller, Caleb Miller, Amanda Strawn, her children, Linda Overbo, and her children.

Nettie is also be survived by her other family members including the Fristeds, the Stovers, the Wickerham’s and the Austin’s.

Nettie was born in Las Angeles on September 2nd, 1948. Nettie loved to garden and go to church. She was a faithful member of her church and was always a part of the local last days of Jesus celebration. Nettie was a very devoted grandmother and spent most her time taking care of her grandchildren. She was always helping people and would never say no to a family member of friend in need.

Nettie will be immensely missed by her mother, sister, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, other family, and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday July 11th at 11am at Sorosis Park (300 East Scenic Drive, The Dalles, Oregon). Flowers, donations, and condolences can be offered to her children Tommy Wickerham and Cindy Wickerham.
