Obituary for Neila Fay Jeffries

Neila Fay Jeffries, “Fay”, 65 passed away unexpectedly at her home in Boardman, OR, on Saturday, May 28, 2022, while her daughter and father were visiting. Fay was born on April 23, 1957, in White Salmon, WA and lived most of her life in the Columbia Gorge, in various towns from Portland to Boardman.

Fay attended Hood River Valley High School and later earned her GED. Her lifelong passion and occupation of a caregiver was developed as a young child while running around and befriending the elderly residents of her Grandparents Ida and Robert Reed's care facility in White Salmon, WA. Fay would secure employment in multiple nursing homes through her career and eventually took a job as a home health provider. This was truly her passion, to provide the highest quality of care and dignity for her patients as they transitioned through the aging process and eventually to their passing. Fay provided high-quality care, companionship, and above all, true friendship as she listened to countless stories of her patients' lives. As she aged, Fay transitioned to serving at Boardman Clinic under Dr. Boss, where she continued to expand her education, earning multiple medical certifications to support her professional status.

Fay will be remembered for her untamed spirit! She had no fear, whether she was taking on the rapids of the Deschutes River, Skydiving in Key West, or snorkeling along the coral reefs off the coast of Mexico or Bahamas. Her adventurous spirit took her and her sisters to multiple continents and islands around the world. Fay enjoyed cooking for her family and was always willing to try new things, but ultimately focused on recreating her mother’s and grandmother’s style of cooking. Anyone who truly knew Fay, would tell you that family was the most important and cherished thing in her life. She spent countless hours collecting family stories from her elders and researching the multiple branches of our family trees. Her love for family was not just limited to that of humankind, she adored her animals, most recently her sweet baby Chloe. Who has now taken up residence with Grandpa Jeffries, who swears that he doesn’t want a pet, (We will see!)? She was passionate about social issues, such as women's rights, LGBTQ+, animal causes, and elderly issues. She was an avid sports fan and could find her supporting the Portland Trailblazers, Seattle Seahawks and Storm, Oregon Ducks, and Olympic games.

Fay was the mother to her only child, Tara Renee. To say Fay loved and adored Tara is understatement.  Her scrapbooks are full of their many adventures throughout the years, all of which will be forever cherished by Tara. The amount of love she had was undeniable and will be forever felt and remembered by Tara. As Tara followed her life journey, Fay was very proud of her daughter’s successes and celebrated each and every one, particularly her master’s degree.

Survivors include her daughter and daughter in law, Tara Jeffries and Teriann Dellanno of Seattle, WA. Her father, Willard Jeffries of Hood River, OR. Her oldest sister and her husband, Barbra and Howard Bird of Sultan, WA. Her middle sister, Kathy Flores of Carson, WA. Fay is also survived by her uncle and his wife, Dan and Virginia Reed, Eva Reed Ray, Marie and Bob Capps, and many adored nieces, nephews, as well as great nieces, nephews and many cousins around the country from Oregon, Missouri, Kansas, Washington, South Dakoda, Wyoming, Idaho, and California. She is preceded in death by her Grandparents, Ida and Robert Reed and her mother Laura E. Jeffries.
