Life Story for Lois Yvonne Nelsen

On November 8th, 2018, Lois Yvonne (Hanel) Nelsen unexpectedly passed away at her daughter’s home in Troutdale, OR, due to complications from surgery and other underlying health issues. She had just turned 82 years old.

Lois was born November 1, 1936 to Lewis Frank Hanel and Nita Fae Reid in Hood River, Oregon. Her father passed away in 1936 and her mother later remarried Cleon Edwin Garmen who helped raise her as his own. Lois graduated from Wy'East High School in 1955. In 1956, she married Ted Nelsen and eventually had their four children. She worked at various companies doing bookkeeping/accounting, including The Boy Scouts of America.

Lois was an avid gardener until health issues made it difficult for her to continue. She then went on to sew doll clothing for the Busy Bees, a non-profit organization, and to sell doll clothing at various Baazars during the holiday season. She also enjoyed the time she spent with her sister June, going on cruises and travelling to Spain.

Lois is survived by her sister Lenita (June) Casper; her former husband Theodore Nelsen; her son Jeffery Nelsen; and three daughters Ca'Sandra Homewood, Anita Nelsen-Brown, and Teresa Milani. She was blessed with 10 grandchildren; Sarah Ann, Gregory, Stephen, and Jonathon Nelsen; Thomas, Michael, Tiffany, and Melissa Homewood, Huynh Anh Nguyen; Kendra Roberts, and Te'Mera Benavidez. She was also blessed with 7 great-grandchildren; Rayna, Thomas, Brooklyn, and Isabel Hudson; and Richelle, James, and Soren, Benavidez; and her beloved Smokey the cat.

Lois will be greatly missed by friends and family alike.
