Life Story for Linda LaBounty
Linda Helen LaBounty died December 25, 2018 at Down Manor in Hood River, OR at the age of 92. Linda was born to Elmer and Lillie (Kangas) Moilanen on September 8, 1926 in Brocket, North Dakota. She moved to the Hood River Valley with her family in 1928. She attended the Odell schools and graduated as Valedictorian of the class of 1944 at Odell High School. She later attended Behnke Walker Business School.
Linda married James LaBounty on July 27, 1946 in Stevenson, Washington. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Anchorage, Alaska and she worked for contractors on Elmendorf AFB. She later kept books for their own businesses.
She moved to Tillamook in 1961 with her husband and purchased a small wholesale beer and wine distributorship, which they operated until the sale of the business in 1975. She kept books for several businesses until she retired in 1981. In 2014 Linda and Jim returned to Hood River.
Linda enjoyed some travel, homemaking, music and growing flowers. She was very proud of her Finnish heritage, she loved animals and had a good sense of humor. She was also a member of Nydia Temple, Daughters of the Nile.
Linda was preceded in death by her husband Jim of 67 years; parents Lillie and Elmer Moilanen; brother Ronald Moilanen; sisters Alice Swyers and Bertie Downing; nephew Steven Downing; niece Rhonda Moilanen; and faithful canine companion, Rosie.
She is survived by her nieces Sharon Phillips, Sally Moore and Carolyn Stevens of Hood River; and nephews Dennis Downing of New Braunfels, TX and Roy E. Pierce of Hillsboro, OR.
Funeral services will be held on at 1:00PM Wednesday January 2nd, 2019 at Anderson’s Tribute Center (1401 Belmont Ave Hood River, OR). A viewing will from 9:00am – 12:30pm prior to the service and a reception will follow the service. Interment will be at Pine Grove Butte Cemetery (2687 Van Horn Drive Hood River, OR) at 3:00pm.
Memorial contribution can be made in Linda’s name to Shriners Hospital or the Oregon Humane Society (C/O Anderson’s Tribute Center 1401 Belmont Ave. Hood River, OR 97031).
