Obituary for Helmut Riedl

Helmut Riedl, 80, of Hood River, Oregon, passed away on January 4, 2024. He was born on May 15, 1943, in Scharding, Austria. Helmut was a genuine, intelligent, and gracious man who loved his family and dear friends. He enjoyed skiing, mountain climbing, soccer, biking, and coaching sports for his boys. After retiring, he planted a vineyard and became the greatest winemaker who ever lived. Helmut had a winning smile and an ability to listen. He told marvelous stories of his traveling adventures and had a great sense of humor. He was musical, loved to dance, and could yodel with the best of them.

Helmut is survived by his wife of 54 years, Pamela, and their four sons: Chuck and his wife Anne, with their daughters Amelia and Charlotte; Tony and his girlfriend Cilka; Marcus and his wife Laiza, with their daughter Olivia (coming soon); and Christopher and his wife Sarah, with their daughter Elowyn.

Helmut pursued his higher education at the University of Vienna, followed by Michigan State University. He had a successful career as a Research Scientist in Entomology, working at UC Berkeley, Cornell University, and Oregon State University.

Helmut's place of worship was Riverside Community Church. A memorial service will be held at Riverside Community Church U.C.C. in Hood River, Oregon, on February 24, 2024, at 2:00 PM.

Helmut Riedl will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. May his memory be a blessing.
