Helen Faye Gurnsey passed away on August 5, 2019 at Providence Hood River Medical Center in Hood River, Oregon. She was 84 years old.

Helen was born January 22, 1935, in Foss, Oklahoma to Estella Maye Richardson Bodine and Jessy Lee Bodine. She had three brothers and two sisters, all of whom preceded her in death.

When Helen was 6 years old, the Dust Bowl hit and the family moved to Stratford, California. Helen picked cotton during that time until the family moved to Marysville, California, where she attended school.

She met and married Bill James Guernsey when she was 17 years old. The couple had 9 children: Larry James, Joyce Sue, Michael Lynn, Gary Dean, Patricia Ann, Dennis Wayne, Debbie Lynn, Joseph Lee and Becky Lee. After the first three children were born in California, the family moved to Gresham, Oregon.

Bill passed away in 1975 and five years later Helen moved the family to Hood River, Oregon. There she secured a position with Duckwall Fruit Company where she worked for 27 years before retiring.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her 5 siblings; daughter Joyce Sue, and sons Michael Lynn, and Dennis Wayne. Faye is dearly missed by family and countless friends. She was a wonderful person and caring mother to many children; nine from her previous marriage with Bill and eight step-children of Daniel Richard Muncie. Faye spent 26+ years with her partner in life Dan, until his passing on 20 May 2005. Faye and Dan both worked at Duckwall Fruit Company in Hood River, Oregon where they would first meet. In the late1970s their friendship grew into some more, a bond that lasted for the rest of their lives!

I have nothing but delightful thoughts of my time spent with Faye. I enjoyed our many conversations at my grandfather’s home when I would return on leave from Europe to visit. She treated the all of the kids with kindness and open arms. She definitely had her hands full with Dan, being the foundation in his life… always keeping him in-check, mind you no easy task !

For family and friends, let us keep Faye alive in our hearts and shared memories. She was one of a kind!

Prayers and loving thoughts…

Mark R. Muncie, oldest son of Daniel R. Muncie
