Obituary for Edna Irene Thayer

It is with deep sorrow we announce Edna Irene (Hoyt) Thayer passed away March 31, 2020 while sleeping peacefully at her home in Hood River, Oregon. She and her twin, Ella Jean (Hoyt) Crosser were born April 16, 1933 to Sybil and Harvey Hoyt in Hubbard, Iowa.

On May 20, 1953 she married Roy A. Thayer, their union lasting just shy of 67 loving years with 5 children; Joleen Paradis, Peggy Jo (David) Menasco, Sylvia (Roger) Williams, Dale Thayer, and Joy Thayer.

Edna was what you would expect a mother to be and more. She was a lady to many, a wife to one, and role model to us all. As a military and a pastor’s wife, she collected many friends over the years. She was a devoted letter/card writer and was known to include an appropriate and thoughtful scripture; Proverbs 3:5-6 were among her favorites. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.”

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Edna Irene Thayer to Heart of Hospice Foundation, 407 Portway Avenue, Suite 201, Hood River, OR 97031. Her Hospice team has been an amazing blessing to Roy as she made her end-of-life journey.

Weep Not for Me
By an Unknown Author
Weep not for me though I have gone
Into that gentle night
Grieve if you will, but not for long
Upon my soul’s sweet flight
I am at peace, my soul’s at rest
There is no need for tears
For with your love I was so blessed
For all those many years
There is no pain, I suffer not
The fear is now all gone
Put now these things out of your thoughts
In your memory I live on
Remember not my fight for breath
Remember not the strife
Please do not dwell upon my death
But celebrate my life
