Obituary for Dorothy Ann O'Dell

 Dorothy Ann O’Dell of Hood River Oregon passed peacefully away on the snowy morning of January 3rd

2023 at home after battling many health issues for the last two years.

Dorothy was born October 31st 1939 in Fairland Oklahoma to Fred L Jones and Margaret Ann (Black) Jones to a large family. She and her family moved to Oregon in in 1944, riding one of the blackout trains to join her father who was working in the shipyards and then eventually moved to the house she would call home off and on (mostly on) for the next 76 years.

She attended the old Odell grade school and went on to graduate from WyEast High School in 1957 and started work in the packing houses including AGA, John Hounsel packing house and Stadleman Fruit before working at Sears, Hood River Plumbing and finally the Hood River County Health Department as the Office Manager where she retired in 2005

She married Marion Lee (Dick) O’Dell in 1957 in Skamania County Washington and had two children Mike and Randy. They initially raised their family in the community of Mount Hood but in 1972 they purchased the place that she grew up in and continued raising their family there. They were married until Dick’s passing in 1986.

Dorothy was an active member of the Odell Lions club for many years until she had to slow down for health reasons, she was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary where her and her “Girl Friends” spent many a lunchtime doing the management of the club and selling poppy’s for Veteran fundraisers and scholarships. Dorothy’s other passion was raising Pie Cherries and with her sons started

Odell Bros Farm specializing in a niche crop.

Dorothy is survived by her children Micheal O’Dell and wife Linda Millan Odell, James “Randy” O’Dell of Hood River, always her daughter in law Allison Madsen (Niels) Portland OR, Grandchildren James “JD” O’Dell (Megan), Oceanview HI. Casandra O’Dell, Portland OR. Jose “Chino” Quevedo (Jodie). Frank Quevedo (Crystal) And Melissa Robles (Eric) all of Cascade Locks OR. Greatgrandchildren Colin O’Dell, Elijah O’Dell, Ester O’Dell, Brenda Muñoz (Ryan), Alexia Quevedo, Anthony Robles. Natalia Robles, Isaac Quevedo, Emilio Robles, Mila Robles, Camilla Quevedo. Brother Glenn Jones (Sigrid) Colorado Springs CO, Sister Delores Herrick of the Dalles OR, sister in laws Virginia Jones Port Orchard WA, Darlene Jones West Baldwin ME and many Nieces Nephews cousins and many Friends she would call family. She will also be missed by “The Babies” Little, Fatty, Roxie, Butter and PeeWee.

Dorothy is preceded in this next journey by her parents Fred and Margaret, Husband (Dick), Companion (Vivian) Brothers Wayne, Darris, J, Sidney, Bill and Little Sister Linda.

As per Dorothy’s wishes there will not be a visitation, Memorial or Service. Remember her for who she was and don’t mourn over her loss she is now in a better place and waiting to welcome all who follow. She will eventually be placed at the Pine Grove Butte Cemetery with Dick after she goes on a hunting trip with her boys one last time.

Donations in her memory may be made to any of the following St Jude children’s Hospital, Shriners children’s Hospital, Oregon Veterans Home, Oregon Sight and Hearing and the Wounded Warrior Project, these where all causes she believed in and supported.

The family would like to thank the Doctors at Columbia Gorge Family Medicine, Nursing staff at Providence Hood River Hospital and Hospice of the Gorge for the support they’ve provide not just to Dorothy but to the family as well and a big thanks to the staff at Providence Home Health for the help and support Dorothy has received for the last few years recovering from surgery and other trying health issues, she considered you all family.
