Life Story for Donald Leigh Moore Sr.

Donald Leigh Moore Sr., of Hood River, Oregon passed away December 20th, 2016. He died at Portland Providence Hospital on December 20, 2016 after emergency surgery.

He was born in Syracuse N.Y. on March 12, 1929 to Darwin and Grace Moore. He grew up mostly in Burt N.Y. assisting on the family farm. He joined the Navy in February 1947 served as a Radar man aboard ship with an honorable discharge in Feb 1950.

Married Francis Ehrstein January 27, 1951 in Newfane N.Y.; followed by the birth of their son on January 6, 1952. After working five years at Ferguson Oil Company as the service manager in N.Y., he moved to Hood River in April of 1963 and worked for the Texaco Distributor until starting Moore Heating Service in April 1967. He was involved in an oil tank explosion in Jan 1978 and after recovery from those injuries continued in business until May 1990 when he retired. His wife passed away in 1986. After retiring he continued to live in Hood River while spending the winters in Casa Grande, Arizona.

He is survived by: son, Donald Moore Jr., of Hood River, Oregon; grandchildren, Alan Moore of Portland, Oregon and Sara Michelotti of Lake Oswego, Oregon; great grandchildren, Brandon, Lily, and Nova Moore of Lyle, Washington; nephew, Kevin Moore of Underwood, Washington; great nephews, Michael Moore and Jordan Moore of Beaverton, Oregon; step grandchildren, Joe Conway, Zac Conway, and Tara Smith of Beaverton, Oregon; great step grandchildren, Rhea Fitzer, Austin Conway, Kailee Conway and Kiara Conway of Beaverton, Oregon.

Memorial donations can be made to the Hood River Valley Adult Center.

A Celebration of Don’s life is planned for Saturday, February 11th, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Hood River Valley Adult Center (2010 Sterling Pl, Hood River, OR 97031).
