Obituary for Dolores Louise Hudson

We are devastated to announce that Dolores “Dee” Louise Hudson passed away on November 13th, 2022 at Mid Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles, OR due to complications from brain cancer. She was surrounded by love and family at the time of her passing, just how she would have wanted. Her battle with cancer in her final years showed her courage in facing these challenges with a smile while having intense gratitude for every moment with her loved ones. She was 71 years old.

Dee was born on December 29th, 1950 to Charles and Helen Parsons in Killbuck, Ohio. She completed the 8th grade until her family began to travel in hopes of finding work that would provide a better life for their children. This led them on many great adventures including stopping in Colorado to pick fruit but deciding to make it their home for several weeks, until they craved warmer weather that led them to Arizona. Their children look back at their nomadic lifestyle indebted to their parents for the experiences that they have held close throughout their life. They remained in Arizona until returning to Ohio when Helen’s father became ill in 1961.

She had her first child and only daughter, Cheyenne, in 1967. Her first son Kenny followed in 1968. A year later in 1969 Helen and Charles decided to move to Oregon. Dee and her children came along with them. They landed in Hood River and in 1970 the forever baby of the family, Teddy, was born.

She married Charles “Chuck” Pounders in 1972. Chuck adopted all three of Dee’s children. Dee worked for Luhr-Jensen for over 20 years while Chuck worked for the City of Hood River. They worked hard during the week to be able to enjoy family, gardening, card games, camping, beach trips, and the not so occasional cocktail on the weekends. They were longtime members of Elk’s Lodge and took this role seriously. Dee instilled a hard work ethic and love of music in her children.

Dee loved being a mother but being a young mother wasn’t always easy. The greatest role of her life began in 1986 when her first grandchild was born. Any unavoidable qualms her children had being raised by a young parent were instantly forgiven upon seeing her with her grandchildren. She thrived as a grandmother and the love for her grandchildren was undeniable. You can imagine the excitement when she went on to have six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Dee and Chuck divorced in 2000 but Chuck still thinks highly of her to this day. Love was one of life’s greatest joys to Dee and she followed love wherever it led her, sometimes to the dismay of family members. Well, those family members are biting our tongue now because her love of love and insistency to follow it led us to being blessed with Glenn Hudson, who she wed in 2003. They lived in South Dakota, Glenn’s home state, until coming back to Oregon in 2010 to be closer to family. They were the love of each other’s life, and we are forever grateful for the man, who we now call family, selflessly standing by her side in those final tough years up until her very last breath.

Dee is survived by her husband Glenn Hudson; daughter Cheyenne McMasters (Randy)l Son’s Kenny Pounders (jenni); Teddy Pounders (Dawn); Mother; Helen Parsons; Brothers Chuck Parsons (Vickie); Ted Parsons (Martha); Sister: Dianna Scott (Tom). Grandchildren: Devin, Katie, Dustin, Gracie, Presley, Ethan. Three great grandchildren: Emily, Hannah, Mateo. Glenn’s family: Daughter Shari Willoughby (Bart); Son: Stephen Hudson; grandchildren: Joshua (Tabitha), Bethany, Ella, Stephanie. Great grandchildren: Roselyn, Ezekiel and Kai.
