Obituary for David Laverne Snuggerud

David Laverne Snuggerud passed away on May 16, 2022 in The La Pine, Oregon. David was born on October 2, 1956 to Dennis and Carol Snuggerud in Hood River, Oregon. He was Baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hood River, Oregon on November 11, 1956. He had on brother, Dwain L. Snuggerud, and one sister, Lori J. Allen. He Graduated from Parkrose High School in June or 1974.

Dave started working at Boeing of Portland on 11-25-1974 until he retired in 2011 at the age of 55. He started out in shot-peening, then moved to a profile milling machine, then went to a flat support nc machine.

Dave bought a house in Gresham in August 1980 and lived there his entire life.He remained a life long bachelor, never married or had any children.

When Dave was in high school, he loved to go backpacking to explore the pacific crest trail with his friend Brian. This interest eventually included Dwain, Lori and even Mom went on several backpacking trips in the pacific northwest.  One of the trips I took with him around Mt Hood over the July 4th weekend was a bit too early in the season, as there was snow on the ground our last morning when we returned to Timberline Lodge.  He assisted my mother off the mountain and got her medical care when her foot was accidently burned on one trip.  He picked me up and carried me across the white river when it was too great a distance for me to jump over safely another time.

Sorting through his household items I found his aquarium he had while we were still living at home with our parents.  I think that is when his fascination with fish first started, as he loved to fish, as many of you know and by the number of pictures of Dave with fish in the tribute video.  Dave was a member of the backlashers fishing club. where he met other people with the same interests who became good friends.  As you may have picked up on, Dave apparently had a problem with throwing or giving things away (keeping his childhood aquarium).  I believe he has enough sports gear to open his own sporting goods store, and we haven't even got to the garage yet.  It will be interesting to find out how many fishing poles I count.

Dave loved many different outdoor activities which included:

hunting deer with his Dad, Grandpa & Brother, hunting antelope with his brother and sister in law in Colorado, rafting, hiking, bow hunting, fly fishing, ocean fishing for halibut & salmon, fishing for salmon, walleye & trout in rivers, and kokanie @ Wickiup Reservoir where he passed away.

He watched a lot of football games & loved to root for the Oregon Ducks, the Seattle Seahawks and the Greenbay Packers.

Dave was also very generous, he bought our parents plane tickets to Hawaii for their silver anniversary.  I still remember my mothers surprised reaction.  It turned out to be a trip of a lifetime for them, as they enjoyed themselves very much. When our mother was diagnosed with Cancer, he took her to all her appointments and was at her house everyday, sometimes more than once, taking care of her. More recently, Dave came to my husbands and my rescue, when we were out camping with our trailer and we had truck problems.  He drove up to where we were camped and hauled our trailer back to Portland with his truck.

In conclusion, Dave has a magnet on his refrigerator that says "The one with the most toys, wins".  I'm pretty sure he is in contention for winning something, I'm just not sure what.

                                                            'The Broken Chain'

We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name.  In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same.  It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone; for part of us went with you, the day God called you home.  You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide; and though we cannot see you, you are always at our side.  Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same; but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.

A service Memorial service and reception for David will be held on Saturday June 11th, 2022 at Andersons Tribute Center (1401 Belmont Ave, Hood River, OR 97031)
