Obituary for Arel Dee Middleton

Arel Dee Middleton passed away on September 27, 2019 at Mid-Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles, Oregon surrounded by family. Dee was born on December 13, 1930 and was 88 years of age at the time of his passing.

He was the son of Ethimur (Epp) Middleton and Beddie Ellen Long Middleton. He was the second in a family of seven. His family moved to Granger, WA and then he joined the Marines in 1948 and spent 31 months on Guam and then went to Wonju, Korea into battle. He was wounded March 1, 1951 and received the Purple Heart for his service.

After the war, Dee came home to Metalius, OR where he met the love of his life, Bertha Louise Hammett. The couple eloped to Reno, NV and they got married on July 21, 1953. They had three children: sons Larry Dee and Steve and daughter Jo Ellen Prindel.

Dee was a service station operator his entire working career. He opened Dee’s Chevron in June 1964 and was in business until 1992 when he closed. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and golfer. After a stroke in 1996, he was still able to play golf and had 5 holes in one as well as many trophies.

Dee and Louise traveled South in the winters for many years. There they enjoyed the sunshine, golf and making many new friends. They enjoyed traveling with Dee’s cousin Jay McMurtrey and his wife Kathy.
Dee was proceeded in death by his parents; his son Larry Dee; and brothers Lee, Jack and Ed. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Louise; son Steve of Wasco, OR; daughter Jo Ellen Prindel of Vancouver, WA; daughters-in-law Carol Middleton and Naomi Pratt; sisters Louise Clarke, Lena Nisley, Rosemary (Gary) Tittle all of Terrebone, OR; 8 grandchildren; sister-law Marilyn Middleton of Madras, OR; 8 great granddaughters; 1 great great grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

He will be missed.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm Saturday October 12, 2019 at the Wasco Cemetery (Wasco, OR) and a reception will follow at 2:00pm at the Wasco Event Center (903 Barnett St. Wasco, OR 97065).
