Farwig
Aidee Farwig-Abaroa peacefully passed away on November 22, 2022 at the Hood River Care Center at the age of 95.
Born in La Paz, Bolivia August 15, 1928 to Tomas Abaroa and Anita Von Traeger, with sister Christina and brother Felix. Upon finishing her education in Bolivia she went on to work for the government then a private firm. She met her husband Guillermo (Bill) Farwig at the Club Andino in La Paz and later emigrated to the United States in 1962. First living in Denver, Colorado, Kansas City, Missouri and Beatrice, Nebraska before settling down in Oregon.
During that time she worked with her husband Bill at Dempster Industries then upon moving to Oregon was employed at Jantzen Sportswear in the international division as the department administrator. While at Jantzen she began working at Mt. Hood Meadows part time on weekends, when brother in law Rene Farwig was the ski school director.
In 1974 the family moved to Parkdale where she then worked full time at Mt. Hood Meadows where she held several different positions over the years from food and beverage manager, office manager, Mt Operations administrator, accounting and ticket sales. She also worked at Diamond Fruit in accounting for several years as well. In 1996 she and Bill moved back to Bolivia and every winter Aidee would return to Hood River to work at the Meadows where she became known as the “Queen of the Mountain” working through 2019 for 51 years until the age of 91.
Aidee is survived by her son Billy, Heather Hanst, grandson’s Jake and August of Bend, nephew Mervin Abaroa of La Paz, neice Renee Farwig Collins of Truckee, CA., nephew Steven Farwig in Maui, Hawaii and sister in law Jeannie Farwig of Hood River. She was preceded in death by her sister Christina Abaroa in 1968, husband Bill in 2022 and brother Felix Abaroa in 2010.
A memorial service for Aidee will be held 1:00 P.M., Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Mt. Hood Meadows. Thank you to all the staff at Hood River Care Center. “Better than ever!” Aidee Farwig
