Life Story for Jean McNamar
Jean McNamar passed away January 12, 2017 in in Coos Bay, Oregon at Avamere Rehabilitation Center at the age of 91.
Jean was born July 27, 1925 in Hood River, Oregon to Rhuben Chester and Mary Elizabeth (Winans) Elder. She was raised on the east hills of the Hood River Valley (up the current Old Dalles Road). She was home schooled for a few years then attended Pine Grove School and Hood River High School. She left Hood River to attend Oregon State College graduating in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. She then taught for a year at Taft; returned to teach in Corvallis before moving to Portland in the early 1950’s then to Agate Beach and Newport in the mid 50’s. Finally she moved to North Bend, Oregon in 1964 where she has stay since.
On July 27, 1947 at the Pine Grove Methodist Church she married Max LeRoy McNamar. Jean was a school teacher in Taft, Corvallis, Newport and North Bend. She enjoyed singing with church choirs and Sweet Adelines, gardening (always some clipping from the yard on the teacher’s desk), and geology. She also loved to have adventures in travel both near and far.
Jean is survived by; children, Max L. McNamar, Jr. and his wife, RoseMarie of Vancouver, Washington, Ruth A. Kindy of Kirkland, Washington, Daniel R. McNamar of Corvallis, Oregon; granddaughters, Patricia J. Kindy, Laura G. McNamar, and Katherine R. Kindy; and sister, Kathleen E. Nichols of Hood River, Oregon. Jean is sadly preceded in death by her parents Rhuben C. and Mary E. (Winans) Elder; her husband Max L. McNamar in 1990; brother Stanley W. Elder and his family; son-in-law, David R. Kindy and daughter-in-law, Terria McNamar.
North Bend services were held at North Bend Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, January 2, 2017 at 1PM.
A funeral service will be held for Jean on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 1PM at Anderson's Tribute Center (1401 Belmont Ave., Hood River, Or. 97031).
