Life Story for Ruth Violet Lewis

Ruth Violet Lewis
The family of Ruth Violet Lewis is sad to announce the news of her passing on September 14th at the Hood River Providence Hospital.

Ruth was born in 1924 in Los Angeles to parents Hugh Arthur Conley and Blanche Wilson. She was raised in Southern California along with her older siblings Dorothy (Dot) and Arthur (Art), and younger brother Gene.

Having lost both her parents at a young age, Ruth left high school in order to support herself and her brother, Gene. This began a working life which was one of her greatest sources of pride and enjoyment, first working during the war effort as a riveter for the Hughes Aircraft Company, then later working as a secretary for the city manager of Lynwood, CA, as the first employee of the newly incorporated city of Vista, CA, and managing a polling station. She was a proud member of the California Grange organization, the Lioness Club and Zonta International.

Her first marriage, to Lowell Skelton, resulted in three children: Lynn, David (deceased 1985), and Scott.

Her second marriage, to Richard Lewis in 1970, brought four step-children into her life: Ruth, Randy, Gordon, and Larry. Ruth and Rich had many opportunities to travel the world and together they were proprietors of a Grange Insurance Agency and a u-pick cherry orchard.

Ruth’s memory is lovingly sustained by those who survive her: her brother Gene and his wife Jean; her daughter Lynn and her husband George; her son Scott; her daughter-in-law Lola; her grandchildren David, Amanda, Sarah, Rebecca, Mathew, Dora, Loel, Wesley, Jesse, Dawn, and Cassidy; her nine great-grandchildren; and countless other family members and close friends.

Family, friends, and neighbors will celebrate her life in a small, private event.

Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson's Tribute Center (Funerals • Receptions • Cremations) 1401 Belmont Avenue, Hood River, Oregon 97031.
