Melvin Anthony Cordie
Melvin “Mel” Anthony Cordie passed away October 10, 2014 at his home in Hood River, Oregon. Mel was born February 18, 1923 and was 91 years of age at the time of his passing.

Mel was born in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Nicholas and Catherine (Essner) Cordie one of twelve children. He grew up in Minnesota; and was an avid sportsmen fishing and bow hunting being his favorites. He served our country proudly during World War II as a radio officer on Merchant Marine ships.

Mel married Delores Stich on May 28, 1949 in St. Cloud, Minnesota and they were blessed with four children; Joan, Debra, Nancy, and Robert. He was an amazing family man and was greatly loved by his wife of 65 years, his children, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. His greatest gift was the joy of his laughter and his love of being with his family. Mel and Delores moved to Hood River, Oregon in 1993.

He was proud of his service and was a member of a Merchant Marine Veterans Group and St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Mel is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife, Delores Cordie of Hood River, Oregon; four children Joan (Mike) Eckert of St. Paul, MN, Debra (Pete) Himes of Portland, Oregon, Nancy (Richard) Cordie of Kapaa, HI, and Robert (Lisa) Cordie; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
