Condolence: So sorry to hear of Chuck's passing. I remember him helping with me while we worked at the Kodiak Salmon Packer's cannery at Larsen Bay. He always was so willing to help and had such a confident demeaner that made me feel comfortable. I also enjoyed playing pinochle at his home and in the messhall, he was a very accomplished player and I always wanted him as my partner. We hope that many wonderful memories carry you through this time of sorrow. Our prayers are for the Lord's peace and comfort to sustain you.

Condolence: Our warm feelings and love go out to Barbara and the children. Margie and I recognize that one of the quiet great people of this community remains with us only in spirit now. I've known Chuck since 1979 when I started as a green newly licensed Realtor. It was a great office to work in. Chuck and Jerry Bell set a standard for fairness and full honesty to all--buyers, sellers and everyone in between. We had knowledge often that could be used to our personal advantage. But there was never any question on that--the Golden Rule was the standard. The success I had in my career very directly traces back to Chuck as a councilor, and advisor, someone who though perennially busy, always had time for any one of us who needed to talk. I remember the joy that would build in Chuck as June approached each year and his trip to Kodiak Island loomed ahead. It was infectious. It made him so happy. Back at work he carried a pretty heavy load much of the time. Lots of responsibilities to the partnerships he formed, to his community and family. He carried a big load and he carried it all well. Complaint wasn't in his vocabulary. After leaving Hershner & Bell Realty in 1985 I still saw Chuck at least several times a year. In the later years though I could see he had growing health issues. Still he seemed to grow lighter. I don't know how to describe it really. Spiritual maybe, though I know he would never use that word. But whatever it was, he was someone I always enjoyed connecting with. Some one who just naturally cared about people. Some one who had made peace with himself and the world he was in. Some one you knew you could count on if you needed help or support. Someone who will be very much missed.

Condolence: Chuck was such a good friend to me the four summers that I worked for Kodiak Salmon Packers in Larsen Bay. I drove forklift, and he often did the paperwork for part of the offloads. We had a lot of common interests. He would give me his copies of the Wall Street Journal when he was done with them. We would often talk at "Mug-up". One season, we ended up staying behind about a week to do the final offload of the season. We had to wait on the Samson barge to come in. It couldn't get in to the dock due to weather. We drank a lot of coffee together that week waiting for it. That was back in the mid 1990s. We continued to stay in touch. I will really miss him. He was a great person! Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
