Charles "Chuck" Frederick  Beardsley
Charles “Chuck” Beardsley , age 73, passed away March 27, 2014 surrounded by those he loved at his residence in Hood River. Chuck was born September 17, 1940 in Oak Park, Illinois to Charles and Marjorie (Jackson) Beardsley. Chuck lived and was raised in Hood River since 1946. As a student at Wy’East High School, Chuck was an A.F.S. Student Exchange to Germany in 1957, and graduated from Wy’East High School in 1958. He then attended George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and the University of Oregon.

Chuck married Barbara Kenslow of The Dalles in 1964. From their union, they were blessed with three children; sons David and Mark and daughter Karen, and eleven grandchildren.

Through the years, Chuck was well known in the Hood River community. He was a partner at Hersher & Bell-Ferrell Insurance Agency, the President of Hershner & Bell Realty, a commercial and residential property manager, and often spent his summers as a commercial fisherman in Kodiak, Alaska.

Chuck devoted his life to years of service in the Hood River area. From 1963-1969 he was a member of the Oregon National Guard, a member of the Hood River County Jaycees, and the Hood River County School District Budget Committee from 1969-1971. Chuck was also a Hood River City Councilman from 1971-1977, and participated in the Hood River-Tsuruta Sister City from 1976 to present. Chuck was a traveling member of the first delegates to visit Sister City Tsuruta. He was the City Mayor of Hood River from 1977-1983, served twenty years on the City of Hood River Budget Committee, where he was Chairman for eight years, served on the Hood River Urban Renewal Budget Committee, was an Officer of the Mid-Columbia Board of Realtors, a Columbia Bancorp Board Member, and a board member of the Gorge Community Foundation.

Chuck is survived and will be sadly missed by his wife Barbara; his children David, Karen and son-in-law Laif, and Mark and daughter-in-law Sheila; grandchildren Justin, Maranda, Abygale,Stella,Dominic,Katherine,Jayson,Bridget,Miriam,Gianna, and Ambrose; and siblings Alan Beardsley and Carolyn Beardsley. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Marjorie Beardsley.

Per Charles’ wishes there will be no memorial services.
