Obituary for Mary Ruth McShane (Hunter)

Mary Ruth McShane (Hunter)
Mary Ruth McShane passed away February 5th, 2014 in Hood River, Oregon. She was born December 23, 1949 in Bloomington, Illinois and was 64 at the time of her death.

A service to mourn Marys passing and celebrate her life are planned for 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 9th, 2014 at the Hood River Elks Lodge (304 Cascade Avenue, Hood River, Oregon 97031 ).

Mary grew up in Danvers, IL where she was a cheerleader and loved to go fishing with her father. She met her husband Terry McShane in Bloomington, IL on New Years Eve in 1969. They were married on August 1st, 1970.

Mary and Terry moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1974 when Terry was transferred by State Farm Insurance as an underwriter. Mary and Terry had their first daughter (Tara) in 1975. In 1977 Mary and Terry moved to Port Orchard, WA, where they opened and ran a successful insurance agency. They had a second daughter (Tami) in 1980. Mary and Terry were very successful and involved with State Farm over the years, holding many positions along the way. Eventually their family settled in Hood River, OR in 1994 where they ran Terry's Office for State Farm.

Mary will be remembered for so many things. She was a very active volunteer and employee of the local Elks Lodge. She made hand painted pottery and glassware that has been sold all over the Pacific Northwest. She had a wonderfully positive and vibrant personality that was able to bring a smile to just about everyone's face. Mary was always a hit at the karaoke bar as she loved to sing. Her love of singing karaoke was responsible for more than a few memorable adventures that she and Terry had. Mary's unmistakable laughter will be missed by all of her friends and family, of which there are many.

Mary loved her family dearly. She had a total of 6 grandchildren who she took every opportunity to spoil. Even though her family was spread across the state of Oregon she was able to make time for everyone in her family.

Mary is survived and will be dearly missed by her husband of 43 years Terry McShane of Hood River,Oregon, daughters, Tara McCoy and spouse Brian of Oregon City, OR and Tami Conklin and spouse Nate of LaGrande, OR. Grandchildren, Natalie Yates, Sophie McCoy, Raegan Yates, Isaac McCoy, Addison Conklin, and Alivia Conklin. Siblings, Janice Bodley, and William Hunter.
