Obituary for John Andrew Streit

John Streit, a resident of Hood River since 2008, died peacefully in his sleep two months before his 99th birthday with family by his side. John spent most of his life in Spokane Valley, Washington, where he attended schools and started his work career. He graduated from Northwest Business College in 1937 and spent several years in the loan business before embarking on a 35 year career with the FAA as an air traffic controller. He retired in 1977 and spent the next 30 years, with his wife Ruby, splitting his time between Maui, Hawaii, and Spokane Valley. After Ruby's passing, John moved to Hood River to be closer to family. John was an avid hunter, fisherman, tennis and bridge player. In retirement he took up tennis which he played almost daily until he was 91. John enjoyed the many friends and staff at Down Manor where he lived for five years, at the Sports Club where he worked out, and at Brookside where he lived for the past year and received loving care. John is survived by daughter Jonnie Kae and husband Ron Anderson, Tom Streit and wife Kim, grandson Mark Anderson and wife Monique, granddaughter Kris Reynier and husband Scott, grandson Tav Streit and wife Cara, granddaughter Amanda Streit, and three great grandchildren. No service will be held at his request. Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson's Tribute Center (Funerals • Receptions • Cremations) 1401 Belmont Avenue, Hood River, Oregon 97031.
