Obituary for Richard Melvin Bertschy
Richard “Rick” Bertschy passed away January 12, 2014 surrounded by his caregivers at Hood River Care Center. Rick was born April 9, 1950 in Mountain Home, Idaho to James and Rosella Samel Bertschy-Dipp and was 63 years of age at the time of his passing,
Services are pending at Idlewilde Cemetery (980 Tucker Road Hood River, Oregon 97031).
Rick grew up in Idaho, Oregon and Washington. He graduated from Bruneau High School in Idaho. After his high school education he joined the Navy for four years, serving in Japan at one time, Due to an accident in the early eighties he was left disabled for several years, slowly recovering Rick worked as a caregiver and worked repairing appliances.
Rick enjoyed photography; the family describes Rick as soft spoken, gentle, and private man that had a wicked sense of humor.
Rick is survived and will be dearly missed by his sister Carolynn “Jill” Ashwell and spouse Gary of South Carolina, his aunt Iona Hoare of Portland, Oregon, sons Russell and Jessie, two grandchildren Jacob and Catherine.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Rosella Bertschy-Dip, uncle Gordon Hoare and sister Annette Muth,
Memorials are encouraged to be made in Rick’s name to Providence Hospice of the Gorge.
Private Family Interment at Idlewilde Cemetery in Hood River, Oregon.
