Obituary for Martha E. Brewer

Martha E.  Brewer
Martha Ellen Brewer passed away January 7, 2014 at Legacy Emanuel in Portland, Oregon.

Martha was born September 15th 1948 to Ray and Montie (Dillon) Vanderslice in Belvue, Kansas. Her family moved to Oregon when she was a young girl, then they moved to Washington, where she attended both Skamania and Carson Elementary schools, and also schools in Oregon.

Services are planned for 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 18th at Anderson's Tribute Center (Funerals • Receptions • Cremations) 1401 Belmont Avenue, Hood River, Oregon 97031. Viewing is planned from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 17th at Anderson’s.

She married Doyle Gilbert and they had one son, after that marriage ended, she married Richard (Dick) Dowty.They had three children, two daughters and one son. After that marriage ended, she married Wayne Brewer.

Martha worked as a bartender and as a caregiver in nursing homes. She enjoyed crocheting, writing poems, listening to Elvis Presley music, and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her four children; Franklin Ray Gilbert of Portland, Tambitha Dowty of Portland, Hope Dowty of Hood River, Terry Dowty of Goldendale, Washington, five sisters, Bessie Jarrell of Washougal, Washington, Eva Dooms of Ethel, Washington, Gertie Baxter of Carson, Washington, Gloria Vanderslice of Stevenson, Washington, Beverly Baugh of Bothell, Washington; two brothers, Roy Vanderslice of Ridgefield, Washington and John Vanderslice of Battleground, Washington; grandchildren, Tia Whitecotton, Brandon R. Abell, Bryan Dowty, Terry Dowty, Jr. and eight others one great grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ray Vanderslice, Jr.

Memorial contributions to be made in her name to Anderson’s Tribute Center for funeral expenses.
