Obituary for Constance Carol "Connie " Scranton

Constance  Carol "Connie "  Scranton
Connie Scranton passed away at 88 years old on October 30, 2013 surrounded by those she loved. She was born Constance Carol Linley in 1924 to Leland and Stella Linley in Mazomanie, Wisconsin. The youngest of five children, the family moved to Oregon in 1937. Connie graduated from Parkdale High School in 1942. Described as a tall, dark beauty, she often played the piano and sang for school dances. She met Lee Scranton at a school dance, and after traveling by train to Kansas at 17 years of age to marry, they continued a 71 year love affair that was an inspiration to all those who knew them.

After the war, they settled in Parkdale, Oregon and raised four children; Tom, Carole, Linda and Vicki. Connie loved gardening and always took great joy in tending her flowers and vegetables. She had an good eye for home interior design as well. Many times Lee would return from a hunting trip to find the living room repainted and rearranged.

Connie was active in the community and served as an elections volunteer, chauffer for ball games, cheerleader practice, and choir concerts to name a few. Lee and Connie participated in a square dance club and bowled on leagues for many years, with Lee readily admitting that Connie would out-score him on most occassions. She loved the outdoors and spent many family vacations camping and fishing in the Northwest.

Connie is survived by her sister, Kathleen Hanel, her husband, Lee, her four children, Tom Scranton of Gresham, Carole Bast of Boise, Idaho, Linda Hughes from Portland, and Vicki Poppen of Sherwood, Oregon. She and Lee have nine grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.
She was loved by so many. Her wisdom, sense of humor, and love for her family will be forever missed and never forgotten.

Memorial Contributions in Connie’s name to Alzheimer’s Research.

Services are planned for 1:00pm Saturday, November 9th, at Anderson’s Tribute Center led by Celebrant Speaker Bob Huskey. A reception will follow and then a private family inurnment at Idlewilde Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson's Tribute Center (Funerals • Receptions • Cremations) 1401 Belmont Avenue, Hood River, Oregon 97031.
