Donald Edward Carter “Don” passed away October 27th, 2013 at home in Parkdale, Oregon with family by his side. Don was born November 1, 1931 in Hood River and was 81 at the time of his passing.

Don was the 2nd son of Ralph and Elsbeth (Malaer) Carter. He grew up in the Hood River Valley graduated and lettered as a Dragon at Hood River High School (now Hood River Middle School). He went on to marry his high school sweetheart Kelita (Peggy) House October 31st, 1952.

Don lived and worked in the Hood River Valley his entire life. Early years found Don employed at Dee sawmill and operating a small dairy on Methodist Lane.

In 1958 the family moved to Parkdale and worked on what was to become the “home place” of Cascade Dairy. There he, Peggy, their four children and various hired help ran a prosperous dairy and farming enterprise.

Don is survived by his four children: Melba Lefler of Powell Butte, Oregon, Nancy Lunt of Parkdale, Oregon, David Carter of Parkdale, Oregon and Daniel Carter of Parkdale, Oregon; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Peggy, two brothers and his companion of 8 years Shirley Kerr.

The family requests that donations be made in Donald’s memory to the; American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association Parkinson’s Foundation or the Michael J Fox Foundation.

Services are planned for 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 1st, 2013 at Anderson’s Tribute Center led by Oscar Stenberg, III and Bob Huskey. A reception will follow and then graveside rites at Mountain View Cemetery. Viewing is scheduled for Thursday, October 31st from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Anderson’s Tribute Center as well as the day of Don’s service.
