Obituary for June Campbell

June Campbell
JUNE MERRELL ISENBERG CAMPBELL was born in Hood River on June 24, 1918 to Elmer and Maude Isenberg, and was a descendant of the Hood River pioneer family of Miles Peter Isenberg. June passed away in Hood River on August 10, 2013. She graduated from Hood River High School in 1936, and continued on to nursing school in Portland at Good Samaritan where she graduated in 1940.

June met her husband to be, Allan G Campbell at a church function at the Hood River Valley Christian Church, where she was a lifelong member. June and Al were married in January 1942 while he was stationed at McChord Air Base in Tacoma, and he soon shipped out to England during WWll.

June worked her career at the Hood River Memorial Hospital as a surgical operating nurse but had a wide variety of skills. She also worked for a time at the hospital in Enterprise and White Salmon. She was very proud of her nursing career and valued her association with the Doctors and Nurses of the area.

June and Al went on to have 3 children who were raised in the Hood River Valley, Glenda, David and Becky, who still reside in the area with their families. She spent many years with family and lifelong friends in the valley. After retirement, they started travelling and spending winters in the warmer climates in their RV. They also traveled distant areas such as Australia, New Zealand, Philipines, England and Scotland, Hawaii, Mexico, Fiji, and much of the United States.

June was the original recycler, influenced by the depression. She was frugal and resourceful, a collector of history and family memorabilia. She was not afraid of tearing down a wall if that’s what it took. She loved antiquing, going to thrift stores, and loved a bargain. She loved gardening, flowers, collecting, and passed on those genes to her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. She had an amazing memory and family members and friends asked her many questions about everything.

Before her death, she lost her husband of 68 years Allan, her daughter Glenda Taylor, and grandson Andy Taylor, brother Raymond Isenberg, and sister Lois Wallace. She is survived by her sister Kathleen Francis, son David Campbell and wife Linda, daughter Becky Smith and husband Jerry, grandkids Shelley Wate, Erin Campbell, Mandy Campbell Betz, Jason Taylor, and their families, and 5 great grandkids, and many nieces and nephews who all miss her.

Mom loved nursing and she was a nurse to the end.
The families would like to thank the following groups for their support: Down Manor, Brookside Manor, Hood River Care Center, Ashley Manor, Providence Hospice of the Gorge, and all the loving caregivers who helped her on her journey.

She and her family would like to suggest donations be made to our local Hospice of the Gorge in her name.

There will be a gathering in her honor September 7, 2013 at 1Pm at the Hood River Senior Center.

Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson's Tribute Center (Funerals • Receptions • Cremations) 1401 Belmont Avenue, Hood River, Oregon 97031. Please visit www.AndersonsTributeCenter.com to leave a note of condolence for family.
