Obituary for Margie N. Reed

Margie N.  Reed
Margie Reed passed away Saturday, April 13th, 2013 at Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital. Margie was born June 6, 1922 and was 90 years of age at the time of her passing.

Services are planned for 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 19th, 2013 at Anderson's Tribute Center, 1401 Belmont Avenue, Hood River, Oregon 97031. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery of Hood River. Pastor Nate Warren will officiate. All are invited to join family for a reception at Emmanuel Baptist Church (2819 W. 10th St., The Dalles, Oregon) following the graveside rites. Viewing and a time to visit with family is planned from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 18th at Anderson’s Tribute Center.

Margie was born in LeRoy, Illinois to John and Marie M. (Sasse) Lowry. She grew up in LeRoy attending school there and met Paul Reed in Illinois and on June 14, 1943 Margie married Paul, they were married in St. Charles, Missouri. Margie and Paul settled in Hood River, Oregon in 1946 where they raised two children; Marie and David.

Margie had a great love for her family and friends. She was the most generous and appreciative mother and friend there ever was. Margie will be deeply missed by both her family and her friends. She was well known for her great voice and loved to sing and had a wonderful memory… she remember songs “word for word” that she had sung as a small child.

Margie loved to read and talk about the books she read, she had a passions for working word puzzle books. She loved children and was a wonderful grandmother supporting her grandchildren in all of their school activities specially their sports. She and Paul never missed a game.

Margie loved to cook and bake, she was known for baking cookies for the neighborhood, friends and family everyone looked forward to the holidays for her baked bag of goodies. Margie never forgot a birthday and enjoyed surprising family and friends with a card and wishes.

She worked in the cafeteria at the Hood River May Street School for ten years and prior to that for a number of years at Hickey’s Food Market.

Margie and Paul celebrated 64 years together. After Paul’s death Margie moved to The Dalles to be near family and lived at Mary Alva’s Senior Care where she spent her remaining years. Margie was very much loved there where she became like family to both her fellow residents and the care givers’ alike. They were her second family. Margie loved to remind the other ladies when it was time to take their medication or offer advice as to what food on that days menu was good to eat… or not.

Margie is survived by her children, David Reed of Springfield, Oregon and Marie Piper (& Clay) of The Dalles, Oregon; four grandchildren, Todd Ferguson, David Ferguson, Tanya Astle & Rachel Reed; six great grandchildren; niece, Karen Sneed (& Frank); siblings, John Lowry of Tennessee and Martha Stone of South Carolina; other distant family and many, many friends that she has collected over the years. In addition to her parents and husband Margie was preceded in death by two sisters, Gayle & Phyllis and a brother, Jack.
