Lawrence "Larry"  Henningsgard
Lawrence S. Henningsgard “Larry” passed away January 13, 2013 at Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital. Larry was born March 21, 1920 and was 92 years of age. Larry was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

Services are planned for 11:30 a.m., Saturday, January 19th, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church (305 Ninth Street, Hood River, Oregon 97031) with Pastor Jeff Mueller officiating. Military Rites will be performed by the United States Navy Honors Team; Larry served our country proudly during World War II. A reception will follow at the church then interment at Idlewilde Mausoleum. Viewing is planned for Friday, January 18th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a special time to greet with family from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Anderson’s Tribute Center.

Larry was born in Melrose, Minnesota to Edward and Nora (Sorenson) Henningsgard, he was one of seven children. He married LaRonne Olson in 1943 and they had two children together.

During World War II Larry served proudly in the US Navy on Lunga Point aircraft carrier serving in the Pacific Theater. He served from 1943 to 1945 and was always proud of his service for our country.

Larry moved to Hood River in 1951 after a stint of construction in Missoula Montana. On August 12, 1962 Larry married Rolene D. Hermann and they made their home in Hood River.

He worked for Charlie Parker Construction and would fondly recall his adventures putting up the power lines from McNary Dam all the way to Troutdale. In 1954 he went to work for Ted Hackett in his appliance store… Larry purchased the appliance store in 1974 and operated it until 1993 when he sold the business to the Paddock family. In his own words in the Hood River News Larry said “I’ve made a lot of friends over the years as I’ve stayed busy involved in selling appliance and running the business.” and joked that upon his retirement “I told a lot of my friends that was going to go windsurfing, buy they just laughed.” “We’re going to do some traveling, and I plan to do some fishing…”

Larry enjoyed traveling and fishing just like he said he would he also enjoyed his cattle farm where family remembers raising cattle and bucking hay, gardening and spending time with family and friends.

Larry is survived by his wife, Rolene Henningsgard of Hood River, Oregon; children Cary Henningsgard of Denver, Colorado and Sherry Nicola and husband, Charlie of Centennial, Colorado; step-children Rick Titus of Hood River, Oregon and Christi Berry and husband, Blane of Sammamish, Washington and Margie Beecher and husband, Don of Dalhart, Texas and Lowell Hahn of Alaska; sister, Evelyn Geer of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 5 grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other distant family and many, many friends that he has collected over the years. He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings.

Memorials are encouraged to be made in Larry’s name to either Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Hood River Valley Adult Center.
