Helen Gladys Muhs passed away Friday November 23, 2012 in Hood River, Oregon.

Helen was born February 28, 1926 in Swain County, North Carolina to John and Una Cochran.

Mom lived in Bryson City. Mom and her 9 brothers and sisters would work in the garden in the morning and enjoyed swimming in the swimming hole near their house in the afternoon. They made their own fun playing game with each other.

Helen married Marvel “Swede” Muhs in Vancouver, Washington on August 5, 1946 and to their union they were blessed with three children; Allen “Butch”, Barbara and Kimberly. Together, they enjoyed drive’s in the valley on Sunday afternoons. Holidays with family, reunions and get-togethers with her sisters and brothers. Helen enjoyed trips to the coast, going to church, listening to Gospel music, going out for lunch, and spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids.

She moved to Parkdale in 1945. There, she and Marvel later bought their first home. She worked seasonally in the packing house and later as a grocery clerk for Dehart’s Market and retired from Mid-Valley IGA. She enjoyed talking with all the people coming through her register and getting to know all the delivery people.
Helen is survived and will be dearly missed by her daughters: Barbara Ellingson of Hood River, Oregon and Kimberly Smith and husband Darren of Beaverton, Oregon; daughter-in-law, Sherry Muhs of Hermiston, Oregon; grandchildren, Robert Daugherty, Lynette Daugherty, Melia Watkins and husband Justin, Aaron Muhs and wife Torey, Kathy Carranza and husband Fernando and Garrick Fisher and wife Kelly; Great-grandchildren: Tiffany Anderson and husband Erik, Steffany Briscoe and husband Josh, Brandon Daugherty and Aiden Briscoe, Sven Anderson Rylend and Audrina Fisher; Great-Great-Grandchildren: Emily and Katelyn Watkins and Noah, Elliott, Emmerson and Hadley Muhs; and brothers: George Cochran of Hood River, Oregon and Bill Cochran of Atlanta, Georgia

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvel and son, Allen “Butch” Muhs and son-in-law, Donald Ellingson.

A celebration of life for Helen is planed Saturday December 1, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Andersons Tribute Center (Funerals • Receptions • Cremations), 1401 Belmont Avenue, Hood River, Oregon 97031.
